PARIS (AP) - Lionel Messi has come out of Barcelona’s Champions League quarterfinal at Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the season half because of an apparent leg injury after scoring his 57th goal of the season.
Messi scored his 57th goal of the season in the 38th minute Tuesday night, drifting into the left side of the penalty area and volleying past goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu with a volley off a pass from Dani Alves. It was Messi’s 59th career Champions League goal, second only to the 71 by Raul Gonzalez.
Messi already had a bloodied left knee by then, then was seen on the sideline clutching the back of his leg. Cesc Fabregas replaced him when the second half started.
