Police arrested former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on Friday, a day after a judge revoked his bail and he fled back to his gated compound in a dramatic SUV escape.
Gen. Musharraf is being tried for his decision to fire senior judges and abolish the country’s constitution while he held high office. He had been out on bail, but a judge ordered him Thursday back in custody.
He fled after the ruling, pushing past court security and peeling from the parking lot in his black SUV with a companion hanging from the vehicle, multiple news outlets reported.
Police said on Friday he was now back in custody, the Associated Press reported. He was arrested at his home near Islamabad.
Shortly after his arrest, Gen. Musharraf defiantly posted on his Facebook page, “These allegations are politically motivated and I will fight them in the trial court, where the truth will eventually prevail.”
