ATLANTA (AP) - Katherine Legge, a veteran of IndyCar and Champ Car racing, is exploring other options.
The 32-year-old British driver tested a Daytona Prototype during Thursday’s Grand-AM test day at Road Atlanta, running 15 laps in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsport Ford/Riley. She also will test the ALMS’ revolutionary DeltaWing prototype Sunday and Wednesday.
Grand-AM races at Road Atlanta for the first time on Saturday, but Legge won’t join Starworks’ driver lineup for the event.
“I’d never driven at Road Atlanta before, so I was learning both the car and the race track at the same time,” Legge said. “This is a great car and fun to drive. I’m hugely grateful to (Starworks owner) Peter Baron and the entire Starworks team for giving me this opportunity.”
Legge is unsure of her future plans in racing, which could include competing in next year’s inaugural season of United SportsCar Racing, the new organization resulting from the merger of Grand-AM and the American Le Mans Series.
“I’m evaluating my options at the moment,” she said. “The sports car world is new to me.”
Legge’s lone Grand-AM start came in the 2007 Rolex 24 At Daytona, but it was certainly a memorable effort, as she recorded the one millionth lap in the history of the event. Legge has seven top-10 finishes in 38 IndyCar/Champ Car starts.
