A suspect tied to the Boston Marathon bombings who was killed overnight in a shootout with police attended a community college and posted an online message about Americans ahead of Monday’s attack, according to CNN.
The network said the older of the two brothers, reportedly from the Chechnya area of Russia, studied at Bunker Hill Community College in the Boston area and wanted to be an engineer.
CNN is reporting the brothers left Chechnya and traveled to Kahakhstan before coming to the United States.
“I don’t have a single American friend. I don’t understand them,” the elder brother reportedly said in an online posting.
He was killed in an overnight standoff with officers in Watertown, Mass., but the second brother is on the loose. Police say the brothers robbed a convenience store in the area and fled in a carjacked car before the shootout.
Authorities shut down subways and buses in the Boston area, the city’s colleges closed for the day and police urged people to stay inside their homes during the manhunt for the second suspect.
The FBI released photos of two young men — reportedly brothers — late Thursday afternoon. Images showed two young men in ball caps at the scene of the twin blasts that killed three people and injured nearly 200 more.
