The third victim in the Boston Marathon bombing was a Chinese graduate student at Boston University, although her name has not been released to the public by the Chinese government.
Two other people killed Monday in the bombings, 8-year-old Martin Richard and 29-year-old Krystle Campbell, were identified on Tuesday, but details about the third victim remained unknown.
Newscasts during the day noted authorities’ difficulties with reaching the victim’s next of kin, before the university came forward and said the third victim had attended the university.
“The student was one of three friends who watched the race near the finish line,” the university said on its website. “Another of the three students, also a BU grad student, was injured and is in stable condition at Boston Medical Center.”
CNN reported early Wednesday that it was following the family’s wishes by declining to release the woman’s name. China’s Consulate and the student’s friends also declined to name her.
The Shenyang Evening News, however, revealed on its social media page that the victim’s name is Lu Lingzi.

She and the two others died in a pair of explosions from makeshift bombs that exploded shortly before 3 p.m. and injured about 175 people, many of them onlookers who gathered near the finish line on Boylston Street.
President Obama, who labeled the bombings an “act of terrorism,” is scheduled to visit Boston on Thursday for a memorial service.
