Jenny Sanford, the ex-wife of former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, has filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband claiming he trespassed earlier this year.
The campaign office for Mr. Sanford — who is seeking a congressional seat and faces a strong general election challenge from Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch — had no comment, Politico reported.
The Associated Press reported that Ms. Sanford’s lawyer filed the suit on Feb. 4, though, and that she had confronted her ex-husband on her property as he held his cellphone up for light. The pair divorced in 2009, and the terms of settlement mandated they couldn’t visit each other’s properties without explicit permission.
The court will hear Ms. Sanford’s case on May 9, AP reported.
Ms. Sanford said in an emailed statement to Politico that she did not make her court documents public but that they were genuine.
“I confirmed that documents the AP sent me tonight were valid,” she wrote, as Politico reported, “but it was my understanding that these documents, which deal with a number of private domestic matters, were to have remained sealed along with the divorce documents. I did not choose to make this public, nor did I choose the timing of his trespassing.”
The Sanfords have four children.
