American Airlines flights are back in the air after a system-wide computer meltdown grounded the airline nationwide Tuesday.

“Our systems have been fully restored, however we expect continued flight delays and cancellations throughout the remainder of the day,” the carrier tweeted at 4:37 p.m. EDT.

The Washington Times reported Tuesday afternoon that American Airlines asked the FAA to halt its flights until 5 p.m. EDT after a crash that debilitated the company’s computer base.

“It is important to note we see no evidence that today’s technical outage is related to the tragic events in Boston,” American clarified via Facebook. “We will continue to provide more information throughout the day as we make progress in resolving this issue. We apologize to our customers and our people for this inconvenience.”

The airline is offering passengers alternate travel and refunds, but few details have yet been reported.
