In what Sen. Ted Cruz is calling a Freudian slip, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid referred to the gun-control bill he brought to the Senate floor as “anti-gun legislation.”
“On the anti-gun legislation before the Senate, we are making good progress on the effort to schedule a series of votes on amendments to the anti-gun-violence legislation before the Senate,” he said on the floor of the chamber Tuesday.
Mr. Cruz, Texas Republican, poked fun at Mr. Reid, Nevada Democrat, suggesting that Mr. Reid’s slip of the tongue may have revealed his true feelings.
“Freudian slip? Sen. Harry Reid calls bill ’anti-gun legislation,’” Mr. Cruz tweeted.
The legislation faces an uphill climb as Democrats struggle to corral support. A cloture vote on the background-check compromise proposed by Sens. Patrick J. Toomey, Pennsylvania Republican, and Joe Manchin III, West Virginia Democrat, could come as early as Thursday, National Review reports.
