Turkey has become the first state to appoint and recognize an ambassador to Palestine.
The consul general to the Palestinian Authority awarded Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas the credentials on Monday — a move that followed November’s upgrade of the Palestinian territory to non-member observer status by the United Nations.
Turkey was one of the nations that voted for this upgrade, over the objections of Israel and the United States.
The new Turkish Ambassador to Palestine is Sakir Torunlar, the Jerusalem Post reported.
