At least 40 Hezbollah and Syrian soldiers were killed in recent clashes with opposition fighters in the town of al-Qusayr in Homs province, activists said Saturday.
Opposition fighters described on Friday what they called the “biggest intervention” by Hezbollah, Al Arabiya reports.
Hezbollah fighters used the help of Syrian aircraft to take control of areas in the Tal al-Nabi area of the Qusayr region. Syrian soldiers were also backed by warplanes, according to activists.
Government troops have stepped up counterattacks against the rebels, threatening supply lines, Al Arabiya reports.
On Friday, the Free Syrian Army claimed that it had seized control of some areas in the northeast Syrian city of Qamishli for the first time.
