A spectator at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race over the weekend shot himself in the head after an altercation with other race-goers.
The New York Daily News said Kirk Franklin, 42, killed himself late in the race and that authorities believe alcohol may have played a factor. The race was sponsored by the National Rifle Association.
Tarrant County medical officials ruled his death a suicide on Sunday, the New York Daily News reported.
A spokesman for the Texas Motor Speedway track said the shooting took place “in or around a pickup truck” in the infield, the paper reported.
