AUGUSTA, GA. (AP) - The Masters is headed to a playoff for the second year in a row after Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera both made birdies at the 72nd hole.
Scott claimed the lead Sunday with a 20-foot putt, celebrating as though he had won the tournament. Cabrera, in the final group, watched from the fairway and knew he had to hit a brilliant shot.
He did.
Cabrera’s iron pulled up 3 feet from the cup, giving him an easy birdie that left both players at 9-under 279.
Now, they’re heading back down to the 18th hole to begin the sudden-death playoff. Scott is trying to become the first Australian to win a green jacket, while Cabrera is seeking to become a two-time Masters champion. He also won in 2009.
