Voters speak: 63 percent say new taxes aren’t needed

New taxes aren’t needed. That’s the loud and clear statement from 63 percent of participants in a new Rasmussen survey about federal spending.

Only 28 percent of likely voters say the government needs to hike taxes in order to pay for programs, Rasmussen reported. Far more see that as needless — and many say cuts are the way to go, the poll of 1,000 likely voters found.

The margin of error is plus-minus 3 percentage points, Rasmussen said.

The finding comes at a time when President Obama’s just-released budget plan projects record-setting levels of tax collections for the year — to the tune of $2.71 trillion. That breaks 2007 tax collection highs of $2.5 trillion and surpasses what the Congressional Budget Office expected for 2013, at $2.07 trillion.
