Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is taking her gun control policy directly to Capitol Hill, with a new campaign that includes personal visits to congressional members to compel nationwide background checks.

In addition, NBC reported, the gun control group she and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, founded will also kick off a robocall campaign in two states — Pennsylvania and West Virginia — to support the senators who forged the background check plan.

The days of NRA’s unbridled influence are over, Americans for Responsible Solutions said.

“We are going to be there for the lawmakers who listen to the over 90 percent of Americans who support an expanded background check system,” said Pia Carusone, a spokeswoman for Americans for Responsible Solutions, as quoted by NBC.

“We recognize that up until now, the influence and power around this issue has been on the other side. Those days are over, and we are going to be carefully watching the votes over the next few weeks.”
