One of President Obama’s own campers — former White House green-jobs czar Van Jones — has come out in opposition to portions of the president’s budget, presented to Congress on Wednesday.
Cutting back on planned increases to the Social Security budget is a “doozy” of a mistake, Mr. Jones said, as reported in The Washington Examiner. And those on the left-to-progressive side in politics won’t be pleased.
“I worked for this president,” Mr. Jones said in the report. “I voted for this president. But even the most beloved presidents make mistakes and missteps. This one would be a doozy.”
Mr. Jones now runs a group that’s the antithesis of the tea party called Rebuild the Dream.
He’s not the only one on the left to oppose the proposed slowdown to Social Security spending, either.
Robert Reich, a secretary of labor under President Bill Clinton, said it would “hurt seniors” and “it’s an idea not befitting a Democratic president,” The Examiner reported. And Jim Dean, who heads Democracy for America, has vowed to raise money to oust from office Democrats who support the president’s budget plan, The Examiner said.
