Disgraced former Rep. Anthony D. Weiner said in magazine article posted online Wednesday that he was mulling a run for mayor of New York City, if the public would only give him a second chance.
“I do recognize, to some degree, it’s now or maybe never for me, in terms of running for something,” he said in a New York Times Magazine article. “I’m trying to gauge not only what’s right and what feels comfortable right this second, but I’m also thinking, ’How will I feel in a year or two years or five years? Is this the time that I should be doing it?’ And then there’s the other side of the coin … am I still the same person who I thought would make a good mayor?”
Mr. Weiner, a Democrat, resigned from Congress in disgrace in 2011 after half-naked and lewd pictures he posted of himself on Twitter made the public rounds. He claimed at first his account had been hacked but then admitted he did the posting himself.
Since, Mr. Weiner has kept a low profile, taking care of his year-old son with wife Huma Abedin, a former aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton.
