Former Vice President Dick Cheney issued a blunt warning to Republican leaders in Congress about the state of American and North Korean relations: The United States is in trouble.

“We’re in deep doo doo,” he told GOP members, an aide said in CNN.

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un is unpredictable and inexperienced in matters of global diplomacy and politics, Mr. Cheney said in the CNN report.

Mr. Cheney’s comments come at a time of rising tensions with North Korea, which keeps threatening to attack its southern neighbor, and the United States. Just Wednesday, a South Korean official warned that North Korea could launch a missile test at any time, CNN reported. And Japan has already moved missile-defense systems to protect Tokyo.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Adm. Samuel Locklear, who commands the U.S. Pacific Command, told senators that Kim Jong-un had spent the past year forming his power structure. He also said U.S. defense systems were capable of intercepting any ballistic missile fired by the North, CBS reported.
