Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s gubernatorial campaign said Monday that the “biggest joke” of this April Fools’ Day is Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s claim that he will put jobs first in The Old Dominion.
The Cuccinelli campaign blasted out a mock announcement in a “McAulliffe to Open Job-Rich Plant in Virginia” email that said Mr. McAuliffe’s company “Greentech would soon be opening a factory outside of Fredericksburg.” The email highlighted video clips in which Mr. McAuliffe, the former National Democratic Committee chairman, talks about buying a electric car company in China and moving it to the United States, and announces that they will be opening another plant that will create thousands of jobs.
The email reads: “Terry McAuliffe chose to base his electric car company in Mississippi. Then he blamed the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) for refusing to bid on GreenTech’s contract, a statement that was quickly proven false by Politifact. Turns out, McAuliffe never even gave VEDP the necessary information to offer GreenTech a package! The biggest joke today is Terry McAuliffe claiming to put Virginia jobs first.”
The latest Real Clear Politics average of poll shows the two men running neck-and-neck in the governor’s race.
