An explosion at a Chinese coal mine killed six workers Monday, three days after another explosion at the same mine killed 28 others, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Eleven miners are missing in Monday’s blast at state-owned Babao Coal Mine, located in the city of Baishan near the North Korea border.
An official for the mining company told Agence France Presse that the two blasts occurred in the same mine, but he did not respond when asked why the mine had remained open after a gas explosion on Friday. Thirteen others suffered minor injuries in Friday’s incident.
Poor regulation and corruption have caused major safety issues in China’s coal mines, making them among the deadliest in the world, New Tang Dynasty Television reports.
