D.C. police are investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon in Southeast.

Officers were called to the 2400 block of Elvans Road in Southeast around 2:31 p.m. for a report of a shooting, Metropolitan Police Department officials said. A man was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was not conscious or breathing, according to police alerts.

The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, MPD spokesman Officer Paul Metcalf said. He could not confirm whether the man had died at the scene of the shooting but said it appeared no one had been transported to a hospital.

No further information, including a description of a suspect, was available Tuesday afternoon.
Including Tuesday’s fatal shooting, the District has recorded 61 homicides this year.
