FONTANA, CALIF. (AP) - IndyCar championship contender Ryan Hunter-Reay has agreed to a multiyear contract extension with Andretti Autosport.
A team spokesman told The Associated Press on Friday night that Hunter-Reay had reached an agreement to stay with the team.
Hunter-Reay goes into Saturday night’s season finale at Auto Club Speedway trailing leader Will Power by 17 points in the standings. He’s trying to become the first American since 2006 to win the IndyCar championship.
This third season with Andretti is the best of the 31-year-old’s career. He’s set career highs in every category and his four wins lead the series.
He was reportedly being courted by Powerhouse Penske Racing.
