A stolen vehicle struck two Metropolitan Police Department officers on motorcycles Wednesday afternoon and a citizen’s car as the driver tried to flee the area, according to police.

The incident occurred at about 2:51 p.m., when two officers on motorcycles spotted the stolen vehicle at 42nd and Benning roads in Northeast.

An MPD police spokesman was unable to clarify whether the officers began pursuing the vehicle or how exactly they were struck by the car. They were hit by the car and suffered minor injuries.

The car continued a short distance on Benning Road, headed west across the Anacostia River. Just on the other side of the bridge, at Benning Road and Oklahoma Avenue Northeast, it struck a resident’s car.

Both a man driving the stolen car and a female passenger were arrested, according to police. Neither their names nor the charges filed against them were immediately available.

Both also sustained minor injuries. A woman in the car that was struck by the stolen car was also injured.
