CARMEL, IND. (AP) - Rory McIlroy says he has “absolutely not” decided whether he would play for the United Kingdom or Ireland in the 2016 Olympics.
Fresh off his second straight PGA Tour win, McIlroy posted a letter on Twitter to explain what he called a sensitive and difficult position. The 23-year-old from Northern Ireland would be eligible to compete for Ireland or the UK. The two-time major winner says he is a product of Irish golf.
But in an interview with The Daily Mail, he says he always felt more British than Irish.
McIlroy cemented his status as No. 1 on Sunday when he closed with a 67 at Crooked Stick to win the BMW Championship. It was his fourth win of the year, the most of anyone in the world.
