KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA (AP) - Robert Garrigus shot a 7-under 64 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead over Jbe’ Kruger, the South African who upstaged Tiger Woods in their second-round pairing at the CIMB Classic.
Garrigus was at 14-under 128. The American left his par putt just short on the 18th hole for his only bogey of the round.
Kruger, playing his first competitive round with Woods, pumped his right arm after each of his eight birdies in a 64 in soggy conditions at The Mines.
Troy Matteson and Australia’s Greg Chalmers were 10 under. Troy Matteson followed his opening 63 with 69, and Chalmers had a 66. Woods shot a 67 to join Kevin Na and Zimbabwe’s Brendon De Jonge at 9 under. Na had a 66, and De Jonge shot 65.
The tournament is sanctioned bu the PGA Tour and Asian Tour. It will become a full-fledged PGA Tour event next year when the tour begins its new season in October after the FedEx Cup.
BMW MASTERS
SHANGHAI (AP) _ Sweden’s Peter Hanson shot an 8-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead over defending champion Rory McIlroy after the second round of the European Tour’s BMW Masters.
Hanson had a 14-under 130 total on The Masters Course at Lake Malaren.
The top-ranked McIlroy had seven birdies a 65.
Sweden’s Robert Karlsson was three strokes back after a 64.
Ireland’s Shane Lowry, England’s Justin Rose, Sweden’s Alexander Noren and Wales’ Jamie Donaldson, the first-round leader, were 8 under. Lowry shot 64, Rose and Noren 68, and Donaldson 74.
LPGA TAIWAN CHAMPIONSHIP
YANG MEI, Taiwan (AP) _ Norway’s Suzann Pettersen shot a 7-under 65 to share the second-round lead with South Korea’s Inbee Park in the LPGA Taiwan Championship.
The winners the last two weeks in the opening events on the tour’s Asian Swing, Pettersen and Park had 10-under 134 totals at the Sunrise Golf and Country Club. Park shot a 69.
Yani Tseng, the top-ranked Taiwanese star who won the tournament last year, was two strokes back along with Scotland’s Catriona Matthew. Tseng shot a 69, and Matthew had a 66.
Pettersen birdied four on her last six holes. She won her ninth LPGA Tour title last week, beating Matthew in a playoff in South Korea.
Park won the LPGA Malaysia two weeks ago for her second victory of the year. She also leads the money list and is second in the player of the year standings, 40 points behind the idle Stacy Lewis. Park would earn 30 points with a victory this weekend.
AT&T CHAMPIONSHIP
SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Mark Calcavecchia shot a 5-under 67 to take a two-stroke lead over Kenny Perry in the suspended first round of the Champions Tour’s AT&T Championship.
Thirty-three of the 80 players were unable to complete the round because of darkness. The round started on time, but play was delayed 3 hours, 18 minutes when a rain storm blew through with lightning and strong wind gusts. The temperature dropped as low as 48 degrees.
Perry was 3 under with three holes left when play was suspended on TPC San Antonio’s Canyons Course.
Tom Kite shot a 70, and Willie Wood also was 2 under with a hole left.
Calcavecchia won the Montreal Championship in June for his second title on the 50-and-over tour. He finished second last year, seven strokes behind Fred Couples.
The tournament is the final full-field end of the year. The top 30 on the money list will qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship next week at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz. Mark McNulty is 30th, $32,506 ahead of Kite. McNulty opened with a 78.
Couples is sidelined by back problems.
WEB.COM TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP
McKINNEY, Texas (AP) _ Justin Hicks shot a 2-under 69 in breezy and cold conditions to take a two-stroke after the second round of the Web.com Tour Championship.
The top 60 on the money list qualified for the season-ending event at TPC Craig Ranch, and the final top 25 will earn 2013 PGA Tour cards. At 11th on the money list, Hicks has already wrapped up a tour card.
Hicks leads the field in fairways and greens in regulation, hitting 24 of 28 fairways and 30 of 36 greens. He had an 8-under 134 total.
Justin Bolli and Canadian Brad Fritsch were tied for second. They each shot 71. Fritsch is 21st on the money list, and Bolli 44th.
