A man was killed in Northeast D.C. Thursday afternoon in when a man got out of a car and shot him, police said.

The shooting was reported at 12:42 p.m. in the 3600 block of Benning Road in Northeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Police are looking for a black four-door Toyota Camry with Pennsylvania license plates that the shooter used to flee the scene, said MPD spokeswoman Officer Tisha Gant.

Preliminary reports described the man as being shot in the head but that could not be confirmed by police Thursday. His name had not been released Thursday evening.

The shooter is described as a young black man in a black jacket and white shirt who got out of the Toyota and shot the man, then got back into the car with another person and drove away. The car was last seen headed towards Interstate 295, which is about a block from the site of the shooting.
