Jon Bon Jovi’s 19-year-old daughter was hospitalized and facing drug charges Wednesday after overdosing on heroin in a dorm at her college in upstate New York, authorities said.
Stephanie Bongiovi was found unresponsive by an ambulance crew sent to Hamilton College early Wednesday after a report that a female had apparently overdosed in the school’s largest dorm, The Associated Press reports.
Town of Kirkland police investigator Peter Cania said Ms. Bongiovi, of Red Bank, N.J., was recovering at a hospital he declined to name.
Officers sent to the dorm initially found a small amount of heroin and arrested Ian Grant, 21, also of Red Bank and a Hamilton student, according to police reports.
Investigators got a search warrant for the dorm and found heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, leading to Ms. Bongiovi’s arrest. Mr. Cania would not say whether the search involved her room.
Police didn’t know whether Ms. Bongiovi or Mr. Grant have lawyers. Mr. Bon Jovi’s representative wasn’t commenting Wednesday.
Ms. Bongiovi and Mr. Grant were each charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Ms. Bongiovi was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and criminally using drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Both were issued tickets and ordered to appear in court at a later date.
Mr. Bon Jovi, 50, is scheduled to perform at a concert to benefit Hamilton’s scholarships and arts programs in Times Square on Dec. 5.
He has four children, Stephanie and three sons.
PSY joins Madonna during Madison Square Garden show
Madonna has gone “Gangnam Style.”
Korean pop star PSY joined the pop icon Tuesday night during her second show this week at New York’s Madison Square Garden. They danced to his pop-culture anthem “Gangnam Style” and to her jam “Music” in front of nearly 20,000 concertgoers.
Madonna said PSY flew “all the way from Frankfurt, Germany, this morning.” She also said she was a big fan of the rapper and loved his suit, which was bright red.
He added that he’s had a lot of experiences in the last few months, and that performing at Madison Square Garden with Madonna topped his list.
Madonna also collected money for those affected by Superstorm Sandy. Fans threw money onstage while she sang “Like a Virgin.” She said she collected $3,000 at Monday’s show.
Philly Pops names successorfor founding conductor
The Philly Pops on Tuesday announced the successor to artistic director and founding conductor Peter Nero, who will step down in 2013 after more than three decades as the group’s leader and most recognizable face.
Michael Krajewski, 62, will take the baton as the Pops’ musical director beginning in the organization’s 35th season next fall, Philly Pops presenter Encore Series Inc. announced.
According to The Associated Press, Mr. Krajewski has served as the principal Pops conductor with the Atlanta, Houston, and Jacksonville orchestras and appeared as a guest conductor with the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony.
“I’m incredibly honored to become part of the great tradition that is the Philly Pops,” Mr. Krajewski said. “Peter Nero has truly built a fantastic ensemble of players and a national reputation for high quality music making. I look forward to building on what’s been established and, more importantly, providing the audiences of the Philadelphia region exciting music experiences.”
Mr. Nero, 78, announced in August that he was departing the Pops after 35 years as the leader and the face of the ensemble. The Grammy-winning pianist and conductor will close out the Pops’ 2012-13 season at the Kimmel Center in May and is expected to conduct the annual Independence Day concert at Independence Hall on July 3.
The Philly Pops had called Mr. Nero’s contract too expensive and negotiated his departure as part of the bankruptcy filing in April 2011 by its then-parent organization, the Philadelphia Orchestra. The orchestra has since ended its relationship with the Pops and it emerged from bankruptcy in July.
In advance of the 2013-14 season, Mr. Krajewski will guest conduct at two Pops concert series in March and April.
Channing Tatum named People’s ’sexiest man’
Channing Tatum is People magazine’s “sexiest man alive” for 2012, The Associated Press reports.
The 32-year-old actor said his first thought on hearing the news was: “’Y’all are messing with me.’”
Mr. Tatum’s film roles include “Magic Mike” and the upcoming “Foxcatcher.”
Other actors who have received the “sexiest” label include George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Ryan Reynolds. Last year’s “sexiest man” was Bradley Cooper.
People announced its 2012 list Wednesday.
