CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Riccardo Muti (MOO’-tee) plan trips to New York, Asia and Mexico for the 2012-2013 season.
The orchestra announced Tuesday that it will perform three concerts in October to open the season at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Those concerts will include performances of “Carmina Burana,” the overture to “The Flying Dutchman” and composer Mason Bates’ “Alternative Energy.”
After leaving New York, the symphony will give two October concerts in Mexico. One will be in Guanajuato and one in Mexico City. The performances will be the first in Mexico for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Muti and the orchestra will travel to Asia in January and February, performing in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and South Korea. The orchestra’s last trip to Asia was in 2009.
