MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins extended linebacker Cameron Wake’s contract through the 2016 season. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Wake has played three seasons with the Dolphins and led the team in sacks last year with 8½. He has started 31 of 46 games.
Wake has 28 sacks and four forced fumbles with Miami after coming to the Dolphins from the Canadian Football League, where he was a two-time defensive player of the year.
• Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon sat out the final day of rookie camp because of a sore right foot. The Jaguars drafted the former Oklahoma State star with the fifth pick in last week’s NFL draft, hoping he can upgrade the league’s worst offense.
• The New York Jets signed safety Josh Bush, one of their sixth-round draft picks, to a four-year contract. The Jets also signed quarterback Matt Simms, the youngest son of Phil Simms, and offensive lineman Frederick Koloto as undrafted free agents.
Seau’s family revisiting notion of donating brain
SAN DIEGO — San Diego Chargers chaplain Shawn Mitchell said Junior Seau’s family is revisiting its decision to donate the former NFL linebacker’s brain for research into football-related injuries.
Mitchell said Sunday that the family, which is of Samoan descent, is consulting with a group of elders on a number of matters.
He says it doesn’t necessarily mean that the family won’t donate Seau’s brain for research. “They really want to do everything right,” Mitchell says.
