LITTLE ROCK, ARK. (AP) - Phone and Internet provider Windstream Corp. says it will cut up to 400 management positions as it restructures the company.
Windstream was formed in 2006 when it was spun off from Alltel Corp. Its initial focus was landline phones, but the company has branched out to include broadband Internet and digital television services.
Windstream says the cuts amount to about 3 percent of its workforce of 14,500. The company, based in Little Rock, Ark., has acquired nine companies since 2006.
President and CEO Jeff Gardner says reducing the workforce will help Windstream be more competitive and keep growing. The cuts are expected to save the company about $30 million to $40 million per year.
