A Gaithersburg man who was held as a suspect in Aruba for four months after his female traveling companion went missing is facing charges of indecent exposure after police officers found him and a woman naked in the back of an SUV in an Annapolis parking garage.
Police responded to a parking garage at 150 Gorman St. around 5:45 p.m. Friday after someone reported possible sexual activity occurring inside a Cadillac Escalade parked there. Gary Giordano, 51, and Carol Ann Bock, 45, were arrested and charged with indecent exposure.
Officers said the pair was found lying naked on a mattress in the rear cargo area of the SUV. A blanket had been hung from the left side of the interior of the SUV “in what appeared to be an attempt to conceal their activity,” according to charging documents filed in Anne Arundel County District Court. Both attempted to cover themselves with blankets or towels when the officers approached the SUV and shined a light through the window.
Mr. Giordano was considered the primary suspect in the disappearance of Robyn Gardner, a 35-year-old Frederick, Md., woman who went missing in Aruba in August while the pair vacationed there. Aruban authorities held Mr. Giordano in prison for four months while continuing to investigate the case, but no charges were filed against him and he was released in November. The disappearance of Ms. Gardner remains unsolved.
The charge of indecent exposure is punishable by up to three years in jail or a $1,000 fine.
Online court records state Mr. Giordano and Ms. Bock are scheduled for a trial in the case on Aug. 10.
