Harry Thomas Jr., the former D.C. Council member who was sentenced earlier this month to 38 months in prison, will report June 20 to a federal prison camp in Montgomery, Ala., a member of the Thomas defense team said Friday.
Thomas’ attorneys had requested that the disgraced lawmaker serve his time in either Montgomery or Pensacola, Fla., and U.S. District Judge John D. Bates had agreed to consider the request. Both minimum-security facilities are operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and are located near military installations.
The Montgomery Federal Prison Camp is near Maxwell AFB.
When asked about the Montgomery decision on Friday afternoon, Thomas, whose Bureau of Prisons inmate number is 31866-016, refused to confirm it.
“I have nothing to say,” Thomas said.
The 38-month prison sentence against Thomas was handed down after he admitted public corruption charges to D.C. authorities, promised restitution and resigned from the council.
Thomas pleaded guilty in January to stealing an estimated $353,000 in taxpayer dollars for personal use.
During their investigation and raid on his home in Northeast Washington, federal authorities seized a Chevy Tahoe and a Victory motorcycle — vehicles he forfeited as part of the plea deal — while searching for evidence that he used his political position to steal public dollars for trips, clothes and other lavish expenses.
