A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the first death that was ruled a homicide in the District in 2012, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Alex Jerome Cater, of Northeast, was arrested Friday and charged in connection with the stabbing and strangulation of Leroy Studevant, a vendor who worked at Eastern Market.
Studevant was found dead near a pathway and creek in the 4200 block of Hunt Place in Northeast at 7:30 a.m. on December 31, 2011, according to MPD. Despite suffering strangulation and piercing blunt force trauma, his death was not ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner until the next day, January 1.
No other information was immediately available about case or what preceded the attack of 56-year-old Studevant.
