As a partner for many years in the top-secret intelligence world, I am amazed at the continuing announcements about the recently foiled bomb plot (“Officials: CIA thwarts new al Qaeda underwear bomb plot,” Web, May 7).

The first and only announcement should have been that a bomb plot was foiled - nothing more. The American public needs no further details about personnel or methods. Publicizing these details only serves to aid the plotters in modifying their procedures to achieve success next time. I suggest that all personnel sounding off about this event simply close their mouths.
