PENSACOLA NAVAL AIR STATION, FLA. (AP) - The first man to walk on the moon and the last one to sat side by side during a ceremony at Pensacola Naval Air Station.
Apollo astronauts Neil Armstrong and Gene Cernan joined former shuttle commander Mark Kelly at the Friday opening of The National Flight Academy.
The three American space heroes came to support Naval aviation and the new, $33 million academy. Its aim is to teach math and science to kids through an aviation-oriented camp. Supporters say the academy is like space camp taken to another level because of its many flight simulators and interactive missions.
The 81-year-old Armstrong and 78-year-old Cernan posed for photographs and shook hands with other dignitaries after the ceremony. Kelly was the event’s keynote speaker.
