OPINION:
If the mandate that all citizens must buy health insurance passes muster with the Supreme Court, why not force all citizens of driving age - regardless of whether they actually drive - to buy automobile insurance?
Under the individual mandate, we would have to buy health insurance before becoming ill, even if we never did become ill. Following the same illogic, upon reaching driving age everyone - even if they are without a car - should have to buy insurance in case they buy a car in the future and have an accident. It makes no sense.
Being forced to buy anything by the government opens a Pandora’s box of unseen problems and is laden with constitutional difficulty.
