Although it is difficult for someone without political connections to get a ticket to the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, this once-exclusive event has lowered its standards to an abysmal level.

Fox News had the gall to use its invitations to bring celebrities Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan to this gala affair. Miss Kardashian is famous for being famous, having somehow been able to fashion a lucrative career out of being a beautiful nobody entirely devoid of substance. Miss Lohan is known for her persistent inability to control herself and proclivity for regular interaction with and supervision by the legal system.

Neither of these young women has any bona fide connection to or knowledge of politics; rather they are extras in the Hollywood freak show.

It is a shame that celebrity trumps all in our dopey society, as reflected by Fox News’ “distinguished” dinner guests. One of their tickets could have been presented to a political news junkie like me, who would have fully appreciated the evening for its substance, not its glamour.
