LONDON (AP) - Ashley Young scored twice to power Manchester United to a 3-1 victory at Tottenham on Sunday, in effect knocking the hosts out of the Premier League title race while keeping the heat on first-place Manchester City.

United surged 11 points ahead of third-place Tottenham and is two points behind City. This was Tottenham’s second straight loss after a 5-2 defeat at Arsenal last weekend.

After Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor had a goal disallowed for a hand ball, Wayne Rooney’s header put United in front at the end of the first half.

Young doubled United’s lead in the 60th minute. In the 69th, he curled a 25-yard shot beyond U.S. goalkeeper Brad Friedel. Jermain Defoe scored in 87th for Tottenham.
