Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican and the frequent object of speculation for both the 2012 vice-presidential nod or a presidential run in 2016, will endorse former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the party’s presidential nomination.

Mr. Rubio said it’s increasingly clear that Mr. Romney will win the Republican nomination and that it’s damaging to continue a primary fight that he said, at this stage, only helps President Obama.

In an interview Wednesday night on Fox News, Mr. Rubio said he thinks Mr. Romney has earned the nomination.

While complimentary of the other Republican candidates, the Florida senator said he’s convinced that Mr. Romney will govern as a conservative and will perform head and shoulders above Mr. Obama as a president.

While Mr. Rubio has been mentioned as a potential running mate, he told Fox News that his heart, mind and focus remain on the Senate and that he doubts he will be asked to join a Romney ticket.
