PRIVACY CRUSADE: The Federal Trade Commission is urging Congress to pass a law to ensure people can review the information being collected about them as technology makes it easier to vacuum up sensitive data about just about anyone’s life.

THE PROBLEM: Many consumers don’t know these digital dossiers are being compiled and sold by companies known as data brokers. To make matters worse, some of the information in the files is outdated or inaccurate.

THE SOLUTION: The FTC wants to make data brokers easier to find and make them more accountable by allowing consumers to see what’s in their records.
