People rightly took to the streets across America to rally against the Health and Human Services insurance mandate that forces everyone to pay for contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing medicine.

The mandate is a blatant attack on the religious beliefs of the Catholic Church. If you oppose abortion, you will still have to pay for everyone else who wants an abortion.

Contraception actually increases unplanned pregnancies because people rely on it to prevent pregnancy and forget that it is not 100 percent effective. Planned Parenthood is banking on the failure rate to fuel their abortion business. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, which keeps statistics for Planned Parenthood, more than 50 percent of abortions are performed on women who were using contraception in the month they conceived.

Contraception, sterilization and abortion all cause a normal, healthy body to malfunction. This health insurance mandate will pay for the destruction of the good health of a woman in order to prevent the life of a baby. If pregnancy occurs, the mandate ensures we will pay for the destruction of the baby. President Obama is adamant that these services be provided free of charge.

The Catholic Church provides many of our national health services, but this insurance mandate will force it to violate its conscience or close its doors. It will cost us plenty, but when looking at this issue through eyes of faith, nothing can compare to the price of a damaged human soul.
