DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert suffered a heart attack early Monday in Dubai where he was preparing to run Game On Dude in the $10 million Dubai World Cup.
Baffert’s assistant, Jim Barnes, said from Santa Anita racetrack in Arcadia, Calif., that Baffert, 59, was “doing very good” after having three stents inserted in two arteries. Barnes said he had spoken to the trainer’s wife, Jill, who had accompanied her husband to the Middle East, along with their young son, Bode.
Barnes said Jill Baffert told him the procedure went well and “everything should be fine.”

Chelsea, AC Milan to meet at FedEx Field
For a second straight summer, the D.C. area will play host to a clash of world soccer powerhouses.
English side Chelsea FC and Italian club AC Milan will meet July 28 in a friendly at FedEx Field, Chelsea announced Monday. The match comes a year after 81,807 took in an exhibition there between Manchester United and FC Barcelona.
The game marks the second meeting between the legendary clubs in Maryland. In 2009, Chelsea triumphed 2-1 over Milan in a sold-out friendly at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Chelsea played a match at FedEx Field in 2005, a 2-1 win over D.C. United.
The Landover venue also will feature a friendly May 30 between the U.S. national team and Brazil.

Canucks’ D. Sedin has concussion, coach confirms
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — Vancouver Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said Daniel Sedin has a concussion. The team remains mum on the left wing’s condition, or if he will be able to return to action before the playoffs.
Sedin was sidelined Wednesday by an elbow to the head from Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith., who was given a five-game suspension.

Cabrera says he’ll be ready to start season
LAKELAND, FLA. — Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera said his vision is fine and that he’ll be ready to play opening day. He rejoined his teammates Monday for the first time since a bad-hop grounder broke a bone below his right eye a week ago.
Cabrera, who batted .344 with 30 home runs and 105 RBI last season, will be examined Tuesday. The Tigers begin the season on April 5 at home against Boston.

Serena rebounds to oust Stosur in straight sets
KEY BISCAYNE, FLA. — Serena Williams rallied from a break down in both sets Monday to beat Samantha Stosur 7-5, 6-3 and advance to the quarterfinals of the Sony Ericsson Open.
Williams, bidding for a record sixth Key Biscayne title, avenged a loss to Stosur when they last met in the U.S. Open final in September.
Ranked 11th, Williams is playing in her first tournament since January after being sidelined by a left ankle injury. She hit 20 aces and lost only six points on her first serve, but she had to rally after being broken in the first game of each set against the No. 5-ranked Stosur.

29-win season earns Flint contract extension
PHILADELPHIA — Coach Bruiser Flint, who led Drexel to a school-record 29 wins this season, agreed to a multiyear contract extension. Terms were not disclosed. Flint, who watched the Dragons win 19 straight games at one point during his 11th season, compiled a 29-7 mark, including 2-1 in the NIT.

Mayfield’s appeal dismissed by federal appeals court
RICHMOND — A federal appeals court in Virginia has refused to revive a lawsuit by former racecar driver Jeremy Mayfield’s against NASCAR over his suspension for failing a random drug test.
A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled Monday that U.S. District Judge Graham Mullen in Charlotte, N.C., did not abuse his discretion in dismissing Mayfield’s complaint.
After his 2009 suspension, Mayfield sued NASCAR; its owner, Brian Zachary France; and a drug testing company for defamation, unfair and deceptive trade practices, breach of contract and negligence.
