It’s official.
Virginia Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II announced that his campaign filed papers with the State Board of Elections Thursday to formally establish a campaign committee to run for governor in 2013.
“I am running for Governor to continue the work I have undertaken during my tenure as Attorney General and as a State Senator,” he said. “I will continue my work to strengthen our economy, preserve our liberty, and to promote the principles of smaller, more efficient state government, accountable to the people it serves. I look forward to sharing my vision for the Commonwealth following the November elections.”
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling on Wednesday announced new staff hires for his 2013 run. Boyd Marcus, a longtime GOP advisor who served as the chief of staff to former Governor James S. Gilmore III and the lead consultant in former Gov. George Allen’s runs for Congress and governor, will serve as general consultant. Christie Heath, former deputy secretary of the commonwealth for Gov. Bob McDonnell, will be Mr. Bolling’s finance director.
And Trixie Averill, formerly the Virginia State Director for Americans for Prosperity, will serve as Mr. Bolling’s western Virginia political director.
“I am pleased that my campaign team continues to grow, and by adding these experienced and accomplished leaders to our team we will do even more to effectively communicate our message to all corners of the Commonwealth,” said Mr. Bolling.
