GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (AP) - The Cleveland Indians have claimed right-hander Rick VandenHurk off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. Left-hander Kelvin De La Cruz, recently reacquired from the Texas Rangers, was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
VandenHurk has an 8-10 career record in parts of five seasons with Florida and Baltimore. He had been signed by Toronto to a major league contract Feb. 22 after being released by the Orioles.
The 26-year-old VandenHurk, a native of The Netherlands, will report to the Indians’ camp later this week.
