LOS ANGELES (AP) - “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” held on as the No. 1 movie for the second-straight weekend with $38.8 million, easily beating the sci-fi newcomer “John Carter.”

Adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ tales of the Mars adventurer, “John Carter” stumbled in its domestic debut with just $30.2 million, a bad start given the movie’s reported $250 million budget.

“But “John Carter” did solid business internationally with about $70 million.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are:
