One day after winning the Republican caucus in Kansas, GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum renewed his attacks on front-runner Mitt Romney, saying the former Massachusetts governor can’t credibly campaign against the president’s signature legislative accomplishment, the Affordable Care Act.
“Governor Romney actually advocated for the Massachusetts model that President Obama adopted,” Mr. Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, said in an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Mr. Santorum said he would not call Mr. Romney a liar, but said that “he repeatedly didn’t tell the truth” about the Massachusetts health care law, which the Obama administration itself has cited as a model for its own health care reform effort.
Mr. Santorum said he has a better shot at derailing Mr. Romney’s bid for the Republican nomination than former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
“I think the the better opportunity to select a conservative is to give us the opportunity to go head-to-head with Gov. Romney,” he said. “If we can get a one-on-one, we’ve seen we do very well.”
