President Obama’s new campaign, “African Americans for Obama,” would enrage the left if it were reversed and used by the GOP (“The ignorance of Rick Santorum,” Politics, Wednesday).

What would happen if Mitt Romney launched a “Whites for Romney” campaign? Mr. Romney would immediately be called a racist. But isn’t this exactly what Mr. Obama is doing? Mr. Obama says that color shouldn’t matter, but vote for him because he’s black. Contradiction? I believe so.

Though it’s true that we are drawn to people who look like us, we shouldn’t vote for someone based on his race. We should vote for those who we believe will lead the country in the wisest direction. Mr. Obama uses Martin Luther King as a model. He would do well to follow King’s advice that people should not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
