It is amazing to me that President Obama and Energy Secretary Steven Chu want Americans to pay higher prices for fuel (“Gas costs too much; here’s why,” Web, Wednesday).

I wonder who they think higher gas prices hurt. It isn’t the left’s oft-derided wealthy, since they can afford to pay higher costs for gasoline. It’s the lower middle class and the poor, who must continue to drive and pay a higher percentage of their income for gas. We end up paying more for fuel and that means more money leaving the United States for foreign shores.

Does the present administration know anything about business? Are they so wrapped up in ideology that they do not care that they are hurting Americans?

To those who previously supported Mr. Obama, I suggest this: Look at candidates who will not be driven by ideology. When you’re not paying so much to fill up your gas tank, you might find you have more money to spend on other things.
