DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Roger Federer advanced to the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Thursday, beating Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-4 to improve to 12-0 against the Russian.
The second-seeded Swiss served solidly and was in good form at the net. He broke to go up 3-2 and won the opening set when Youzhny failed to return his serve.
In the second set, Federer wasn’t pressured after breaking for a 1-0 lead. He clinched the match with a kick serve that Youzhny returned into the net.
Federer, looking for his fifth title in Dubai, will play either Juan Martin del Potro or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinals.
