Capital Pride celebration is expected to draw thousands of spectators and will close streets around Washington’s Dupont and Logan Circle neighborhoods.

The festival on Saturday and Sunday for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their supporters dates back to 1975.

On Saturday, the Capital Pride parade is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. The route stretches east from Dupont Circle to New Hampshire Avenue, R Street and 17th Street Northwest. It finishes with a turn onto P Street and onto 14th Street near Logan Circle.

D.C. transportation officials say street closures will begin at 1 p.m. and continue through 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the Capital Pride street festival will close part of Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest between 3rd and 7th streets. The festival begins at 11 a.m.
