A fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend in Southeast escalated into a stabbing incident, D.C. police said Wednesday.

According to a police spokesman, at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the couple started fighting, starting with yelling and then the man punching the woman in the face.

The man finally pulled a knife on the woman and cut her arm, police said, but she was in stable condition as of Wednesday, and he was in custody.

Ages and residence of the couple were not available.
